Inner West Extension

The NSW Government has announced a 2011-12 financial year budget commitment of $103 million to expand light rail in the inner west and central Sydney, integrating it with other forms of transport.
The Inner West Extension is a 5.6km expansion of our current light rail system and includes 9 new stations from Lilyfield to Dulwich Hill.
Metro Transport Sydney (MTS) and the NSW Government have since reached agreement on the commercial principles of the Dulwich Hill extension.
On the 30 November 2011 MTS issued the Tenders for the procurement of the infrastructure works and light rail vehicles associated with the Inner West Extension.
There are three shortlisted tenderers for the infrastructure works – Leighton Contractors, ABI Group and John Holland, and two shortlisted tenderers for the new rolling stock – Bombardier and CAF.
Tenders will be returned in Q1 2012 for review, and successful proponents appointed following.
It is anticipated that new service testing will commence in 2013 and revenue service will commence in 2014.
